Airtificial sells technology to manufacture electric vehicles in the United States
- Airtificial closes its second international automotive technology sale in one week with a major American Tier 1 supplier, signing a contract for an intelligent line to manufacture electric vehicles in the Detroit (Michigan) automotive hub.
- Following the contract signed with a Tier 1 supplier in India, the Group has secured another project for the design and manufacture of a robotic line for the assembly and automated testing of power converters that transform direct current into motive power and supply the vehicle’s electronics, technically known as DC/DC converters.
- This Airtificial technology, which incorporates 15 intelligent robotic arms, enables faster automation throughout the assembly, control and traceability process and is designed to complete one unit every 36 seconds.
Madrid, 7 October 2026. Airtificial Group has secured a new international contract worth $6.4 million with a major US Tier 1 supplier to design and manufacture an automated assembly and testing line for electric vehicles, to be delivered turnkey to its plant in Michigan, in the Detroit automotive hub. The new line, designed in Spain and to be manufactured over a period of around 40 weeks, accelerates the assembly and validation process for DC/DC converters for electric vehicles, essential devices that adapt the voltage from the high-voltage battery to the electric motors and the vehicle’s electronics.
The transaction marks Airtificial’s second international automotive technology sale announced in just one week, following the recent project for India, and expands the geographical deployment of the solutions developed by Intelligent Robots. Both contracts are aligned with the Group’s strategy of selecting projects with high technological complexity and an international scope, capable of bringing Airtificial’s engineering and automation capabilities to some of the world’s leading industrial hubs.
Guillermo Fernández de Peñaranda, CEO of Airtificial, said: “These two international projects in just one week reflect the strong reception in the global market for our technological capabilities and our competitiveness in bringing technology developed in Spain to major industrial markets such as India and the United States. Geographical diversification and the selection of higher value-added projects are part of the Group’s transformation, as it continues to focus its capabilities on strategic areas such as defence and aviation, infrastructure and industrial automation. This growing presence across different markets enables us to support major international customers with highly complex technological solutions.”
Intelligent automation to produce one unit every 36 seconds
The line will integrate the equivalent of 15 robotic arms and will cover processes ranging from plasma surface treatment, designed to improve material adhesion, to the application of thermal interface materials and sealants, protective encapsulation of electronic components, printed circuit board assembly and automatic screwdriving. Before each unit is completed, the system will also carry out leak tests and high-voltage electrical tests to verify proper insulation and operation.
This combination of robotics and automation will enable a cycle time of 36 seconds per unit and an overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) target of 85%, an indicator that measures line availability, production speed and output quality. The installation will also be capable of producing variants for the European and North American markets on the same line.
Automation will also extend to the movement, control and tracking of each part throughout the entire process. A transport system using pallets and specific tooling will position components precisely between the different stations, while RFID technologies and QR codes will record the progress and manufacturing parameters of each unit. All this information will be integrated in real time with the factory’s digital manufacturing execution system (MES), ensuring full process traceability.
The new transaction expands the international presence of Airtificial’s automation technology for electric mobility and adds the United States to the markets in which Intelligent Robots deploys highly complex industrial technology solutions.
