Airtificial expands in India and triples its production capacity

Airtificial is growing in India. On the one hand, it has added a new customer to its portfolio there, a French Tier 1, one of the largest in the world in the automotive sector, with which it has just closed a contract of nearly one million euros for the design and manufacture of two intelligent lines for serial production of electric and hybrid vehicles, which will be delivered turnkey and whose final destination is a plant of the local car manufacturer Mahindra. On the other hand, the company is moving to a new, larger plant in India, allowing it to triple its production, product homologation and customer service capacity, as a base for expansion and business growth in Asia. The company is thus fulfilling its growth strategy, presented at the last General Shareholders’ Meeting, through two key levers: internationalization and diversification of the customer portfolio, expanding into global markets with enormous sales potential.

The contract signed with Tier 1, worth nearly one million euros, covers the design, manufacture and turnkey delivery of two inverter assembly lines for electric and hybrid vehicles for the Indian brand Mahindra, one of the largest manufacturers and leader in the SUV segment in the country. Under the new contract, Airtificial designs and manufactures inverter assembly lines, a key component in electric and hybrid cars. Inverters make it possible to transform the direct current generated by an electric or hybrid vehicle into alternating current, which powers and drives the motor. These linear inverters will be delivered to the Tier 1 electronics division and will integrate a total of twelve semi-automatic stations, six stations per linear inverter. This artificial intelligence technology allows the manufacturer to optimize processes and produce more parts faster. In addition, the lines are equipped with stations for vacuum testing, automated bolting, automatic feeding and a radiofrequency traceability system for the entire vehicle assembly process.

With this new agreement, Airtificial has already tripled last year’s total contracting so far this year. In addition, it adds another major customer there, with which it opens a new business relationship and consolidates its position as a Tier 2 reference for Tier 1 and OEMs. In 2023, Airtificial signed an agreement for the design, manufacture and turnkey delivery of robotic lines for the manufacture of rear suspension shock absorbers for various vehicle models for Suzuki and Honda. Airtificial thus strengthens its position as a reference company in the automotive sector for the design and manufacture of intelligent linear systems in car production lines.

With this new contract, the Group opens its doors to new projects with greater technological integration and strengthens its position in one of the world’s largest industrial hubs, India, which currently and for several years has had an exponential growth potential in multiple business areas, including the manufacture and assembly of automotive components. At the same time, it has managed to double the production capacity developed so far in the Asian country, reaching the milestone of establishing itself in a market that is governed by high standards.

New facilities and a larger professional team to remain at the forefront of the industry

Airtificial will inaugurate in September its new facilities of nearly one thousand square meters and will incorporate new professionals at its base located in the Indian city of Pune, where the Group’s technological and industrial plant is currently located. Thus, the company will increase the number of employees to 35 in just two years and triple its useful surface area dedicated to assembly and construction work to more than 650 square meters, which will enable the company to continue growing on the continent by developing its industrial process optimization technology. The new plant will also mean a three-fold increase in the space dedicated to engineering, design and customer service work, to nearly 200 square meters, with the aim of increasing local engineering talent, which has a worldwide reputation.

The new facility, fully equipped with high-performance ancillary services, will facilitate the supply of high-performance electronic components and engines designed with Airtificial’s own technology, and will be ready to respond to the current needs of the markets in which the company operates.

Among these markets, and according to official data, the Indian market has one of the most important automotive component manufacturing industries in the world, with a production of around 10 billion euros and employing at least 1.5 million people throughout the country. Moreover, this sector is growing at an annual average of 9.5% and produces, on average, around 30 million vehicles. In addition, government forecasts point to India as one of the world’s leading producers of vehicle exports, with vehicle export growth rising from 22% today to 30-40% in the next five years.

Airtificial’s CEO, Guillermo Fernandez de Peñaranda, states that “the Group is growing, and doing so in a superlative way on a global scale. This important agreement in India, together with the significant expansion of our facilities in the country, expands and enhances our possibilities in one of the continents with greater industrial projection in the world, such as Asia, and together with the recent awards in NAFTA, we strengthen our international position as a partner of choice in terms of automation and process optimization through high technology. At Airtificial we continue to work at full capacity to offer our customers the best industrial solutions on the market”.
