Airtificial Secures Three Water Engineering Contracts in Peru and Colombia
- The Airtificial Infrastructures business unit strengthens and expands its operational presence in Latin America through the expansion of three key civil engineering projects aimed at improving the quality of life in communities located in areas vulnerable to water-related disasters.
Madrid, January 22, 2025. Airtificial Group has extended three water engineering contracts in Peru and Colombia to provide consultancy for the design of riverbank defenses and the optimization and expansion of a wastewater treatment plant. The company thus strengthens its position as a leading engineering firm in the management of natural resources in Latin America, with over 40 years of expertise in developing hydraulic infrastructures.
These projects aim to improve the quality of life for communities in both countries located in climate-vulnerable areas, which face unique challenges related to water scarcity, climate change, and the fragility of their ecosystems.
In the first project in Peru, the company will provide technical consultancy for the design of riverbank defenses along the Virú and Chicama rivers in the La Libertad region. This region, one of the 24 departments of Peru, is home to more than 2.1 million people. The program was designed by Peru’s National Infrastructure Authority in collaboration with the Spanish company OHLA.
The second project, also in Peru, involves supervising the execution of the Protection Program for Valleys and Rural Populations Vulnerable to Flooding. Designed by the Subsectoral Irrigation Program (PSI) under the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI), this extension aims to reduce the vulnerability of the Cañete, Chincha, and Pisco valleys. This will be achieved by improving prevention infrastructures to control overflows and flooding from the rivers of the same names. These works will benefit over 10,300 families in the Lima and Ica regions, extend for nearly 32 kilometers, and include the reforestation of more than 20 hectares.
The third project will be carried out in Colombia, where the company will join the consortium managing the optimization and expansion of the El Salitre Wastewater Treatment Plant (PTAR Salitre). Tasks will include detailed design, construction works, and equipment installation. Developed by the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Cundinamarca (CAR Cundinamarca), this project is part of the Bogotá River Sanitation and Recovery Plan. This program plays a crucial role in cleaning up the river, treating a volume of 7.0 m³ of water per second, and preventing an average of 450 tons of waste per month from entering its waters.
Through these civil engineering contracts, Airtificial Group, via its Airtificial Infrastructures business unit, enhances its position as a key player in implementing projects that not only improve water infrastructure in the countries where it operates but also have a positive impact on climate change adaptation and environmental sustainability.
Airtificial Infrastructures boasts a strong track record in civil infrastructure projects across more than 90 countries in Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Asia. It is a leader in the engineering sector, offering services and developing proprietary products and patents with a special focus on water and environmental consultancy engineering. The company currently has permanent offices in Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia, Honduras, El Salvador, and the Dominican Republic.
