Airtificial manufactures robotic technology for ‘Cupra’

Madrid, February 20, 2025 –Airtificial Group will be part of the mass production of electric and hybrid vehicles for the Spanish high-performance automotive brand SEAT Cupra. Airtificial Intelligent Robots has secured a contract with one of the most globally relevant Tier-1 suppliers in the automotive industry, a German company, for the engineering, development, and manufacturing of a robotic, automated, and intelligent production line. This line will be used for manufacturing and assembling welding control systems for the battery cooling units of these vehicles. These systems will be part of the assembly equipment in Cupra’s large-scale production.

This project, integrated into a mass production program for Cupra vehicles, will be carried out at the company’s robotics intelligence business unit plant in Manresa, in the province of Barcelona, Catalonia. This aligns with Airtificial Group’s commitment to strengthening the Spanish industrial sector. The final product will be delivered turnkey to the German Tier-1 supplier, a leader in the development of technology and engineering applied to manufacturing components for various industries, particularly automotive.

This advanced production line will be a key tool in the manufacturing process of these vehicles and, consequently, in their overall performance. The welding control system to be produced consists of a set of hardware and software designed to manage and supervise critical parameters during the process of joining metallic or alloy parts in the battery cooler. This includes the production and integration of processing modules and real-world quality testing to ensure the required precision and efficiency, preventing any structural failures. This system is crucial to guaranteeing proper battery cooling, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and durability.

The production line will measure 3.5 x 2.5 meters, with a cycle time of 22 seconds, meaning that a new piece can be produced every 22 seconds. Additionally, it will include electric actuators and high-precision instrumentation for verifying battery flatness, achieving repeatability down to the micron level.

Airtificial CEO, Guillermo Fernández de Peñaranda, emphasizes, “Once again, we are a reference company for one of the most important Tier-1 suppliers in the global automotive industry. We continue to demonstrate our pioneering role in developing technology for sustainability in the mobility sector. Developing robotics and leaving our mark on vehicles from a Spanish brand like Cupra—one that is showing remarkable strength and growth in various markets—highlights the significant added value that Airtificial Group brings through its engineering and innovation. It is a source of great pride for our company.”
