Airtificial manufactures the largest assembly line in its history

Madrid, October 18, 2024. Airtificial Group is developing a project for a prestigious German Tier 1 automotive supplier, valued at 5.2 million euros, in which it is manufacturing the largest linear system in its history. Measuring 100 meters in length and 20 meters in width, this Airtificial-branded linear system is designed for the long-series assembly of cooling systems for electric and hybrid vehicle batteries and features an integrated robotic transport method for loading and unloading components. The project includes the design and manufacturing of 20 robotic arms and over 15 vision cameras for the renowned Tier 1 supplier.

These vision cameras, developed by the company, play a crucial role in such industrial processes. They operate by capturing and analyzing images in real-time using advanced deep learning algorithms, capable of identifying, measuring, and evaluating various aspects of the assembly process, including the aforementioned loading and unloading transport method.

Intelligent Robots, a business unit of Airtificial Group, will handle the design, manufacturing, and assembly of the components for this linear system at its facility in Manresa, Barcelona, which has been expanded to meet this technological challenge. These industrial optimization processes represent the group’s commitment to the development of the electric and hybrid automotive ecosystem in both Catalonia and Spain.

Two main factors constitute the added value that the renowned German Tier 1 automotive supplier considered in renewing its trust in the company: its expertise in electric and hybrid vehicles and the use of highly automated industrial processes with advanced technological capabilities. The custom-designed project for this Tier 1, in addition to manufacturing the largest assembly line in Airtificial Group’s history, also includes other developments, such as the announcement made by the company last May regarding the design and manufacture of a smaller assembly line and the inspection of a crucial component for electric and hybrid vehicles—the radiators, which are responsible for cooling the batteries to prevent overheating and thus extend their functionality and lifespan.

Airtificial Group reaffirms its leadership in high-value-added projects that contribute to the electrification of the current vehicle fleet. It also paves the way for more sustainable mobility, one of the major challenges facing the industry today, which the company has made a strategic priority.

Airtificial Group CEO, Guillermo Fernández de Peñaranda, has described this project as “a key element in Airtificial Group’s strategy to delve deeper into electric and hybrid vehicle technologies, being pioneers in offering robotic engineering solutions with artificial intelligence. Notably, this is the first time we are working with this German Tier 1 supplier in Spain, thus strengthening our ongoing development of the automotive ecosystem in the country, particularly in Catalonia. We are pleased to collaborate with companies close to our origins, and that is why we wanted to leverage the advantage offered by our recently expanded facility in Manresa for the production of this line, the largest in our history”.
