Airtificial speeds up in America
- Airtificial Intelligent Robots, a business unit of Airtificial Group, has signed a contract worth over 7 million dollars with one of the world’s largest Tier 1 automotive leaders for the development, engineering, design, and manufacturing of robotic and intelligent production lines at its plant in Mexico.
- Intelligent Robots’ 40-metre-long production lines for this Tier 1 supplier will be equipped with cameras and deep learning technology, reducing manufacturing time for long-run electric vehicle series by 25 percent.
- With this contract, whose end customer is the leading US electric vehicle manufacturer, Airtificial Group is expanding its presence in the American market and solidifying its position as one of the foremost companies in cutting-edge industrial technology for the automotive sector.
2 December 2024. Madrid. Airtificial accelerates its operations in the NAFTA market to meet the growing demand for electric vehicle manufacturing. The Intelligent Robots division of the global Spanish company has signed a contract worth XX million euros with this major Tier 1 supplier for the design, manufacturing, and turnkey delivery of an assembly and testing line for electric steering systems used in various models by the leading American electric vehicle manufacturer. Airtificial will manufacture this production line at its facility in Querétaro, México one of the key automotive hubs in the Americas, where this US manufacturer plans to increase vehicle production.
The new 40-metre-long manufacturing and assembly line features advanced robotics, including 12 state-of-the-art robotic arms. It is designed to assemble motor controllers for electric steering systems in electric vehicles, as well as to verify their proper functionality. These automated systems perform multiple tasks, such as intelligent component screw fastening, plasma cleaning to ensure contaminant-free surfaces, highly controlled welding processes, and the precise application of thermal paste to within millimetric accuracy. Each function is tailored to optimise the quality and efficiency of the assembly process. In this regard, the Airtificial production line enhances vehicle assembly efficiency by reducing manufacturing times by 25 percent.
“This is the added value we provide to our clients. Our intelligent technology enables them to optimise their industrial processes and reduce the cost of car manufacturing,” explains Airtificial CEO, Guillermo Fernández de Peñaranda. “With this new contract, we are growing in the NAFTA market and solidifying our position as a benchmark Tier 2 supplier,” Fernández de Peñaranda adds.
The production line is also equipped with a high-precision artificial vision system that utilises integrated cameras and deep learning technologies in its component testing modules. These technologies allow for detailed welding inspections, ensure the accurate and active placement of parts, and evaluate the quality of the thermal paste using advanced optical profilometers.
The system also features innovative customised contaminant inspection technology capable of detecting particles as small as 450 microns. This functionality is critical to ensuring that motors meet the stringent cleanliness standards required by the industry, preventing potential failures or performance degradation.
Airtificial operates a facility in Querétaro, consisting of three production units and employing more than 65 people, where this line will be manufactured. The company plans to scale up its production for the NAFTA market from this operational base, capitalising on the anticipated growth of the leading American electric vehicle manufacturer as well as other major players in the market, including Tier 1 suppliers and end manufacturers.
