Airtificial secures two major water contracts in Honduras and Peru

Madrid, February 26, 2025. Airtificial has been awarded two contracts, valued at 4.3 million euros, for the implementation of urban water engineering, wastewater treatment, and wastewater elimination projects to boost water infrastructure in growing cities in Honduras and Peru. The group’s civil engineering division, Airtificial Infrastructures, strengthens its position as a key player in engineering applied to natural resources in Latin America.

In Honduras, Airtificial Infrastructures was awarded a 3 million euro contract by the Government of the Republic of Honduras for the rehabilitation of the potable water system in Puerto Cortés, a city with a population of more than 140,000 people. This program is part of the Urban Water Supply Strengthening Project, funded by the World Bank, aimed at improving the efficiency and reliability of potable water services in small and medium urban municipalities. Airtificial will handle the design, engineering, and supervision of the project, which will be completed within 18 months. The works will focus on improving the system and reducing the environmental footprint by implementing environmental and social management strategies. Furthermore, the project will impact several stages of development for the entities responsible for managing potable water, from their establishment to consolidation.

In Peru, Airtificial strengthens its presence by signing a 1.3 million euro contract in collaboration with the Project and Program Management Unit (UGPP BID) of the National Urban Sanitation Program (PNSU) of the Ministry of Housing, Construction, and Sanitation of Peru, to develop the technical file for the project to improve and expand potable water, sewerage, and wastewater treatment services in the districts of Zarumilla and Aguas Verdes, in the Tumbes region. This contract will be carried out within 350 days and is co-financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

The government project includes the construction of a main sewerage system and a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), which will significantly reduce pollution and improve water quality in the area, benefiting over 65,000 inhabitants.

A ‘know-how’ built over 30 years in water engineering

Airtificial Infrastructures has over three decades of experience in managing, planning, and developing large hydraulic infrastructures. The company operates in the fields of hydrological planning, hydraulic domain management, integrated basin management, and the exploitation and maintenance of large infrastructures. It also executes desalination, water supply, sanitation, purification, and potable water projects, as well as dams and river channelization.

Recently, the Group participated in the inauguration of works for the Access to Potable Water and Sanitation Services Program in the City of La Paz, Honduras, a project in which it developed monitoring, control, and assurance services for the correct compliance of key processes. Today, these works are a reality and will benefit over 30,000 residents of the city’s urban area.

Guillermo Fernández de Peñaranda, CEO of Airtificial Group, emphasized, “These contracts are yet another demonstration of the company’s commitment to improving the living conditions of the hundreds of thousands of people living in the areas where we operate.” “We can proudly say that we are leaders in the sustainable development of water engineering, and we are pleased to continue being a strategic partner of the Government of the Republic of Honduras and the Government of the Republic of Peru,” concludes Fernández de Peñaranda.
