Airtificial signs a €6 million contract to manufacture electric vans
- A well-known automotive Tier 1 supplier has commissioned the Spanish company to deliver a power inverter assembly line for the mass production of a new e-van model (electric van) for a major U.S. OEM.
2 February 2026, Madrid – Airtificial Group has signed a €6 million contract for the design and manufacture of an automated assembly line for electric motor power inverters for a U.S. Tier 1 supplier serving a U.S.-based vehicle manufacturer, further strengthening its position as a leading technology partner in the field of electric mobility. The project will be carried out by the Intelligent Robots division of the Spanish industrial technology group.
The line is intended for the assembly of power inverters, a critical component in the electric vehicle powertrain, and also integrates the assembly of protocol and data service units. The system will support the production of a next-generation e-van, meeting the quality, traceability, and reliability standards required by leading international OEMs.
The project has been designed and will be built, assembled, and validated at the division’s headquarters in Barcelona. From there, it will be prepared for shipment to the U.S. vehicle manufacturer’s production plant located in Eastern Europe. The full development of the solution, from project kick-off to final line validation, will be completed within 40 weeks, meeting a particularly demanding industrial schedule.
Guillermo Fernández de Peñaranda, CEO of Airtificial, stated: “This contract reflects the level of specialization and technical excellence we have achieved in advanced automation for e-mobility, as well as the trust that leading global OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers place in our capabilities. It also consolidates Spain as one of the group’s key technology hubs for the development of high value-added industrial solutions.”
From an operational standpoint, the solution developed by Airtificial Intelligent Robots will incorporate 27 workstations, operate with a 63-second cycle time, and require only two operators, optimizing production efficiency within a total footprint of 30 meters in length by 7 meters in width. The design is based on criteria of maximum productivity and minimal operational footprint, aligned with Airtificial’s clients’ industrial competitiveness objectives.
