Airtificial has been selected by Airbus Defence and Space for the Eurodrone project

  • Airtificial Aerospace and Defense division will manufacture composite material parts for the Eurodrone project, a remotely piloted drone considered strategic by Europe for its technological autonomy, defence capabilities and air security.

Madrid, 18 May 2026 – Airbus Defence and Space has placed its trust in Airtificial’s more than 25 years of experience in the industrialisation and manufacturing of composite material parts for aircraft. As a result, the Spanish company is now part of the select group of companies participating in the European Eurodrone project, focused on the development and manufacturing of a remotely piloted unmanned drone considered strategic by the European Union to ensure its technological autonomy, territorial defence and air security.

As part of the project, Airtificial has been entrusted with the manufacturing of cowlings, composite material components that enable the drone’s propulsion system to operate correctly. These are the fairings that protect the engines and optimise their performance. They are critical components for ensuring the system’s efficiency and reliability, and require a high level of precision in both design and production.

Airtificial’s participation in Eurodrone represents a further recognition of the Company’s experience in the aerospace sector, both in the replacement of metal parts and in programmes originally designed around this type of material, which helps reduce aircraft weight, increase energy efficiency and lower fuel consumption. Specifically, Airtificial’s Aerospace & Defense division brings its expertise in advanced engineering and the manufacturing of highly complex structural components, which it already produces for the world’s leading aviation OEMs, in both the civil and military sectors. In 2024, the division manufactured more than 60,000 aircraft parts in composite materials of various sizes, ranging from nearly two metres to just a few centimetres.

Eurodrone, whose development is led by Airbus Defence and Space together with other leading European companies in the sector, is a key project for the European Union, with the participation of Spain, France, Germany and Italy. The Eurodrone project also symbolises Europe’s commitment to industrial cooperation in defence and to reducing dependence on external technologies. “For Airtificial, being part of this initiative strengthens our position as a technology partner in strategic programmes with international reach, aligning us with the vision of a more autonomous Europe with greater response capabilities in a constantly changing global environment,” said Guillermo Fernández de Peñaranda, CEO of Airtificial Group.

Participation in this programme not only strengthens Airtificial’s relationship with Airbus and the European aerospace industry, but also drives the creation of knowledge and high value-added employment in Spain. In doing so, the company consolidates its role within the European innovation ecosystem and reinforces its growth strategy in the aerospace sector, an industry set to play a key role in the continent’s technological transformation and future security.
