SUCCESS STORIES | TRUCK STEERING / Pumps Assembly Line

Challenge

Replicating human senses using robots and vision through an insertion process requiring the utmost precision and tolerance.

HOW DID WE DO IT:

By solving the challenge of inserting pallets into their spots inside the rotor. After recognizing this area as being crucial, we used agile methods to develop and validate it quickly.

  • We set up a multidisciplinary team for the day-to-day running of the project and, at the same time, a separate dedicated team working in partnership with a robotics manufacturer to develop the solution.
  • Building a prototype focused on MVP (minimum viable product) allowed us to validate the crucial part as soon as possible without affecting the key design stage of the project.
  • Introducing force limit monitoring for insertion.

Thanks to faultless management, we left the project operating at the customer’s facilities and delivered great value for their processes: cycle time is down 30%, OEE is up, and human-caused variability is down.
